On November 6, 2024, at the 7th China International Import Expo (CIIE), Estée Lauder joined forces with Tongji University's School of Design and Creativity to recover all the PETG materials used in the construction of the pavilions, re-pelletize and recycle them, and combine them with science and technology to present its brands in three-dimensional form to consumers at the show, demonstrating its commitment to sustainable fashion.
The Estée Lauder Group's “Boundless” pavilion at this year's Fair combines the essence of environmental protection and technology, using a single piece of PETG material to co-design and produce the main wall decorative material of the pavilion, reaching a technological breakthrough of a single piece of high-transparency injection molding process with a thickness of only 2.5 millimeters, and realizing the combination of transparency and injection molding process. The design materials and ideas of the pavilion were awarded system patents. PETG material not only has good transparency and chemical resistance, but also favored for its recyclability, commonly used in cosmetic packaging and medical devices, which is the best representative of environmentally friendly plastic materials. After the Fair, Tongji University's School of Design and Creativity will collect all used PETG materials, which will be re-granulated and recycled. The Estée Lauder Group has set up more than one-third of the area as an R&D zone, covering the key features of the Group's current R&D investment, including the Night Skin Repair segment, Luxury Skincare & Fragrance segment, Dermatology-grade Efficacy Skincare segment, and Skin Nourishing Beauty segment.
In the recently disclosed Estée Lauder Group FY2024 Social Impact and Sustainability Report, Estée Lauder has reportedly achieved carbon neutrality in Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions for the fifth consecutive year, and has adopted 100% renewable electricity in its direct operations globally. By 2025, 75-100% of the Group's product packaging will be recycled, recyclable, reusable, reclaimed or recycled-after-reuse.
In addition, the Group also integrates sustainability into store design and visual displays. in June 2023, the Group announced the launch of its Responsible Store Design (RSD) program, which is dedicated to various sustainability-related initiatives such as waste reduction, water conservation and responsible sourcing of materials. To date, more than 20 stores under 11 brands have been successfully assessed.Recently, the program was awarded the “2024 Green Dot China|Sustainable Practice Case of the Year”.
